Sunita Deshpande


Sunita Deshpande was a Marathi writer from Maharashtra, India. She was fondly called "Sunitabai".

Biography

Personal life

In 1945, she met Pu La Deshpande and they were married the next year on 12 June 1946.

Professional life

Deshpande began writing late in her life. She wrote her award-winning memoir "Aahe Manohar Tari..." in 1990. The book has been translated into Gujarati
, Hindi, Kannada and English.
She has acted in Marathi movies like "Vande Maataram", "Navra Bayko", and plays like "Sunder mee honaar", "Raajemaster", and "Rajamaataa Jijaabai" She was also a prolific correspondent. Her book "प्रिय जी.ए.", a collection of numerous letters written by her to her pen-pal and famous Marathi writer G. A. Kulkarni, won her the first "G A Kulkarni Award" for remarkable literary contributions and influence in 2008.

Death

Deshpande died on 7 November 2009 due to age Pune. She was 83 years old.
