Sunset (apple)


The 'Sunset' is an apple cultivar that arose as a seedling from 'Cox's Orange Pippin'. The fruit has red stripes and an orange flush over gold background. Usually, part of the apple is red while part of it is yellow. It is similar to 'Cox's Orange Pippin' and has some russetting.
The 'Pixie' apple is a distant descendant. The UK National Fruit Collection's accession number is 1979-190. Orange Pippin Cultivator ID number: 1059

Growing

The Sunset Apple is heavy cropping but self fertilizes itself. It is the third flowering group. In terms of gardening skill it is easy to grow. Ploidy: Diploid

The Sunset Apple is suited to temperate climates. It has good resistance.

Usage

The Sunset Apple has good quality and an aromatic style. Keep\use for 2–3 weeks. Eat fresh.

It has some resistance to cankers and scabs.
