EPISODE 1 14 South Africans think they are on their way to a media briefing, but they are actually about to begin the game of Survivor South Africa. The contestants are immediately split into two tribes: Rana and Aguila. They then compete in their first Reward Challenge. Rana: Danielle, Don, Gareth, Jacinda, Lezel, Ncumisa, and Zayn Aguila: Brigitte, Jude, Mzi, Nico, Sam, Sanele, and Vanessa Reward Challenge: The tribes will run to the village, fill their container with fuel, and run down to the dock to ferry a boat. Once they are on the shore, the tribes will swim to the cove and up an embankment to their tribe flags. The first tribe to get all of their members to the flag will be allowed to stay on the BlackPearl Island beach and receive a survival kit. While they are swimming to the island, Sanele almost drowns in the rough waters. In the end, Aguila wins Reward and get to stay on Black Pearl Island. On Aguila, the tribe observes that Sam is attempting to be the leader of the tribe, but Vanessa and Nico believe that Sam is taking on too much by being the leader. Mzi is able to catch fish for his tribe. On Rana, the tribe is forced to trek to their beach and are exhausted when they arrive. Despite their setbacks, the tribe is getting along very well. Immunity Challenge: The tribes will attach themselves to a mast, feed the mast through hoops and navigate through the mangrove swamp course. The first tribe to make it back will win Immunity. Aguila wins Immunity. Back at Rana, the tribe discusses the vote and everyone believes Danielle should be voted out first because the tribe believes Danielle wishes she was on Aguila and they question her loyalty. However, as the tribe is getting their camp put together, Don becomes ill and rests all day. The tribe is upset that Don hasn't even attempted to help contribute to the tribe and they begin to wonder if maybe they should keep Danielle for tribe strength. At Tribal, the tribe does believe that they are getting along together. Danielle makes a plea to her tribe that she wants to stay in the game and that she will be loyal. Don remarks that the tribe made a mistake in the Immunity Challenge by putting a woman at the front of the mast instead of a man. The tribe votes. In a 4-3 vote, the tribe decides that Don's physical weakness is more dire to the tribe than their issues with Danielle's trust. Don becomes the first person voted out of Survivor South Africa. EPISODE 2 Reward Challenge: One member from each tribe will meet in the circle, they will be harnessed to a rope, and try to make their way to their tribe stakes. The first tribe to score three points will win a fishing net and flint. Aguila wins Reward. Back at Aguila, the rest of the tribe notices that Sam and Brigitte have been inseparable since the start of the game. Sam decides to take control of building the fire. When Jude and Vanessa try to assist, Sam gets annoyed and offends the two women. Later, Sam gets frustrated and swears at Mzi, which nearly causes a physical confrontation between the two of them. At Rana, the tribe decides that they are going to begin having daily tribe meetings in order for people to share their feelings and to organize themselves before the challenges. Jacinda is elected as the tribe's chairperson as people feel she is methodical and intelligent. The tribe has a terrible night in their shelter as sand fleas and mosquitoes bite them. Immunity Challenge: The tribes will select one member who will attach themselves to a cannon. They will then maneuver their cannon through an obstacle course and down the beach to the finish line. The first tribe to cross the finish line wins Immunity. Rana wins Immunity. At Aguila, several discussions take place about the vote. Sam knows that he is a target because of the outburst he has yesterday and tries to improve his relationships with his tribe members. Sam suggests to Nico and Jude that they should keep the tribe strong and get rid of Vanessa first as he sees her as the weakest link. Jude would like to see Brigitte leave because she doesn't think Brigitte is taking the game seriously. However, Mzi believes that the vote should be about unifying the tribe and he believes that Sam is causing tension in the tribe. At Tribal, the tribe discusses the rifts in the tribe and the argument between Sam and Mzi is brought up. Mzi criticizes Sam's behavior, noting that his temper strained his relationships with Mzi, Vanessa, and Jude. The tribe believes that Sam and Brigitte have isolated themselves from the rest of the tribe. After the votes are cast, the majority of the tribe has decided that Sam's attempts to be leader and arguing with the tribe is causing too much tension. Sam becomes the second person voted out of Survivor South Africa.
