Susheela Jayapal


Susheela Jayapal is a politician in the U.S. state of Oregon. Since January 2019, Jayapal has been serving as a county commissioner for Multnomah County, the state's most populous county. She is the first Indian American to hold an elected county office in Oregon. She is the older sister of US Representative Pramila Jayapal.

Early life and education

Jayapal was born in India, and came to the United States to attend college when she was 16. She has a degree in Economics from Swarthmore College and a law degree from the University of Chicago Law School.

Jayapal ran in the 2018 Multnomah County Commission election against three other people and won with 24,543 votes.
