Svetega Petra Hrib

Svetega Petra Hrib is a small settlement in the Municipality of Škofja Loka in the Upper Carniola region of Slovenia.

Name

The name Svetega Petra Hrib means 'Saint Peter's Hill', referring to the location of the village on a hill that rises above Saint Peter's Church in Bodovlje. The name of the settlement was changed from Svetega Petra Hrib to Hrib pri Zmincu in 1955. The name was changed on the basis of the 1948 Law on Names of Settlements and Designations of Squares, Streets, and Buildings as part of efforts by Slovenia's postwar communist government to remove religious elements from toponyms. The name Svetega Petra Hrib was restored in 1994. In the past the German name was Sankt Peter im Gebirge.
