Tami Gouveia


Tami L. Gouveia is an American Democratic legislator currently serving as State Representative of the 14th Middlesex District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. A public health social worker, Gouveia has dedicated her career to solving the problems families face in their everyday lives. A lifelong advocate of progressive causes dedicated to ensuring that all people have what they need to thrive, Gouveia spearheaded several public health initiatives and served in numerous leadership and consulting positions throughout her career. She currently represents the towns of Acton, Carlisle, Chelmsford, and Concord. Gouveia serves on the Joint Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities, the Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure, the Joint Committee on Export Development, and the Joint Committee on Mental Health, Substance Use and Recovery.

Early Life and Education

Gouveia was born in Lowell to Deborah and Robert Gouveia. Gouveia's desire to enter public service was sparked at a very young age and heavily influenced by her experiences in childhood. Gouveia was raised in the Centralville neighborhood of Lowell where she attended St. Michael's School. An avid reader, engaged student, and young social justice advocate, Gouveia graduated from Lowell Catholic High School in 1992. As a student at Mount Holyoke College Gouveia became involved in Democratic politics. She volunteered on campaigns, was a member of the College Democrats, and served all four years in Student Government, starting as a Dorm Senator and progressing to Secretary then President her senior year. Gouveia studied politics and women's studies and spent the summer of 1994 interning with the Democratic National Committee and College Democrats of America. Gouveia graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Holyoke College in 1996, a Master of Social Work from Boston University School of Social Work in 2001, and a Master of Public Health from Boston University School of Public Health in 2002, where she is currently studying opioid policies for a Doctorate of Public Health.

Electoral History

Gouveia defeated Green-Rainbow Party Candidate Danny Factor 89.6% to 9.9% in the general election for Massachusetts House of Representatives 14th Middlesex District on November 6, 2018. Gouveia defeated Christian Krueger and Benjamin Bloomenthal in the Democratic primary for Massachusetts House of Representatives 14th Middlesex District on September 4, 2018.
