The Nutshack follows the two distant cousins, Phil, from the San Francisco Bay Area, and Jack, from the Philippines, who live with their uncle, Tito Dick, in south-suburban Daly City.

Phil Matibag is a harsh, foul-mouthed Filipino-American young male from Daly City south of San Francisco known for his annoying personality. Phil would sometimes use drugs such as marijuana, and has poor manners. Aside from his negative nature, he cares deeply about his cousin, Jack. The episode "Fatherland" reveals that Phil was separated from his family and was adopted by Tito Dick and his brother. It is presumed that Phil was born from a family of natives.
Jack Colero is Phil's dim-witted but warm-hearted cousin from Makati. What he lacks in street smarts he makes up for in book-smarts; however he often acts cowardly.
Tito Dick "Dickman" is Phil and Jack's strabic uncle. As evidenced by the pilot, his real name is Richard Cabeza. He also loves the ladies with all of his heart.
Horat, also known as Horatio or Horatio 1.0, is Jack's robotic pet tarsier with a pitch shifted, high-pitched voice, and serves as the comic relief character of the series. In Season 2, he is given subtitles.

Chita is Phil and Jack's female friend who runs the local bar. She is also Jack's love interest.
Dwayne Futon is Tito Dick's goofy landlord who desperately attempts to connect with his tenants and as a result is often made a fool of.
Cherry Pie is a friendly and flirtatious Vietnamesetrans woman who runs a salon and is a virgin.
Sanjee is an Indian man who runs a liquor store and serves as a top distributor of pornography in Daly City.
Ed and Angel own a custom car shop and are both stoners. Ed is highly forgetful and often cannot recall where he is, what time of day, or people's names. Angel is Latino and Ed loves drugs.
Willie is a gibbering homeless man known for his unintelligible speech.
Manu is a Hawaiian man who is a gentle person despite his bulky appearance. He is very nice to Jack and Phil and is one of their good friends.
Swoop Dog and 2Quack are two ducks who target celebrities from above with their droppings. Swoop Dog is a parody of Snoop Dogg and 2Quack is a parody of Tupac.
Becky is a female character who is known to only date white people. She only appears in the pilot episode.
The Nutshack was generally low-rated and critically derided, though it built a small cult following from its reputation in late 2016 based on remixes of its theme song on YouTube, which became a minor internet meme.
