The Oaks (Staunton, Virginia)
The Oaks is a historic home located in the Gospel Hill Historic District in Staunton, Virginia. It was designed by Winslow & Wetherell and built between 1888 and 1890 for Major Jedediah Hotchkiss.
The main structure is a three-story, 21-room, shingle style brick dwelling built against a hillside. It features a complex hipped roof, sleeping porches, a 3-part round-headed window, and protruding 5-sided bay. The interior contains intricately detailed woodwork typical of the period. The yard contains a fish pond, fire pit, and patio. The National Register listing included three contributing buildings, including the main house, a carriage house and an outbuilding now connected to the main house.
The Oaks is in private ownership after a sale in February, 2019.
