The Troubles in Newtownhamilton

• 7 April 1973 - Steven Harrison and Terence Brown, both members of the British Army, were killed in a Provisional Irish Republican Army land mine attack on their mobile patrol, near Newtownhamilton.
• 24 August 1975 - Colm McCartney and Sean Farmer, both Catholic civilians, were found shot dead shortly after being kidnapped from their car near Newtownhamilton. The two men had been returning home from a Gaelic football match when they were stopped at a bogus British Army checkpoint. The "Protestant Action Force" claimed responsibility and the attack has been linked to the "Glenanne gang".
• 1 September 1975 - James McKee, Ronald McKee, John Johnston and Nevin McConnell, all Protestant civilians, were shot dead during a South Armagh Republican Action Force gun attack on Tullyvallen Orange Hall, Newtownhamilton. William Herron, who was also shot, died of his wounds two days later.

• 6 November 1973 - John Aikman, British Army, Royal Corps of Signals, was killed by an Irish Republican Army gunman while on duty at the Courthouse, Newtownhamilton.
