Thet Thet Khine


Thet Thet Khine is a Burmese politician, physician and businesswoman who currently serves as a member of parliament in the House of Representatives for Dagon Township constituency. She is one of the most successful businesswomen in Myanmar and owns a number of gold, jewelry, and gem production companies.

Early life and education

Thet Thet Khine was born on 19 August 1967 in Mogok, Myanmar. She was the youngest child of three siblings, having an elder brother and an elder sister, Htun Eaindra Bo, an actress and singer. She graduated with M.B.B.S from Institute of Medicine, Yangon in 1993, MBA from Yangon Institute of Economics in 2004, MBA from Nanyang Technological University's Nanyang Business School in 2008, and then International Management Program, MA, from MIT Sloan School of Management in 2008. She started her Ph.D course in Walden University in 2012 and successfully finished it in 2019.

Business holding

She owns a number of gold, jewelry, and gem production companies, including Forever Gems and Golden Palace gold and jewellery, country's largest gold and jewelry retailer. She is also managing director of Jewel Collection Manufacturing Co.Ltd and United GP Development Co.Ltd.
She had served as joint secretary General of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industries from 2013 to 2016. She is also the vice president of Myanmar Women Entrepreneurs Association since 2013, and vice president of Infinite Myanmar Metta Foundation since 2012. Thet is an treasurer of Myanmar Gold Entrepreneurs Association.

Political career

Her political aspirations first began in 1988, at the time of the 8888 pro-democracy uprising, when she was a student and joined the protests.
She is also active supporter in 1990 General Election of Burma for National League for Democracy in Mogoke.
In 2014, she became a member of the National League for Democracy. In the 2015 Myanmar general election, she contested the Dagon Township constituency winning a majority of 84,31 votes, won a House of Representatives seat. She also serves as the member of Banks and Financial Development Committee for House of Representatives.

Suspension from party's duties

In September 2018, Thet Thet Khine and Kyaw Zeya, a Yangon Region Hluttaw MP were suspended from their Township NLD duties by the NLD Central Committee for allegedly criticising the party in the media. Thet Thet Khine told the public media at a discussion on the anniversary of the November 2016 election that "Aung San Suu Kyi could not decide her role in the government and was like a player who plays everywhere on the football pitch" were being punished.
She founded Peoples Pioneer Party with her colleagues. She became Chair of the new Programmetic Party in Myanmar. Her party was approved by Union Election Committee, Myanmar in October, 2019. Kyaw Zaya who is her college during NLD Party also joined in 2020 as Vice Chairman to PPP party which is newly formed first ever Programmetc Party in Myanmar. The PPP was established earlier this year by former NLD stalwart Daw Thet Thet Khine, an influential and wealthy businesswoman who said her party will enlist the help of professionals and experts to come up with a programme to promote and protect the public welfare.

She was awarded Outstanding ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Award.
She hold Master of Business Administration from Nanyang Technological University, MIT Sloan School of Management In Public Policy and Doctor of Philosophy from Walden United Methodist Church In Public Management and Leadership class of.
She entitled Thudamatheingi Title under her religious donations as Politics of Myanmar.

Personal life

Thet married Aung Kyaw Win, a businessman, and physician on 3 April 1994. They have one daughter, Thet Yadanar Kyaw Win.
