Thuruthipuram, also known as Chathedom Thuruthipuram, is on the border between Ernakulam district and Thrissur in Paravur Taluk, Kerala, India. The place is on a bay on the river. Three sides of the village is surrounded by the river. During the rainy season, flooding of the lower areas is a major problem. Many of the inhabitants are fishermen. The place is inhabited by people of different religions, mainly Hindus and Christians. The Church name is St. Francis Assisi Church which is Latin Catholic Church and forms part of the Kottapuram Diocese. According to the historical books Thuruthipuram was the native of the first Roman Catholic group of ArchDiocese of Verapoly. The temple name is Muruka-Valli-Devasena temple. The place contains schools, a college and hospital which are controlled by the church. There is a post office. AAJM Hospital is one of the oldest hospital in this area which was initially run by foreign missionaries. Thuruthipuram is well known for its boat races and Chavittu nadakam. The famous Thuruthippuram Boat Race is conducted in the Thuruthipuram river. This boat race is one of the oldest boat races in central kerala. In 2016 a group of people from this place built a "Iruttukuthi" boat and named it "Thuruthippuram". This is the first B grade Iruttukuthi boat in kerala with a village's name.
Access
It is possible to take a route to North Paravur through a ferry called 'Thuruthipuram-Gothuruthu'. From Thuruthipuram it is possible to go toKodungallur through 'Kottapuram-Thuruthipuram bridge. From Thuruthipuram it is possible to go Puthenvelikkara 4 km, Mala13 km, Chalakkudy 25 km through the bus route connection.
Culture
Inhabitants are mainly Christians and Hindus. Place is famous for boat races and has a boat club named 'Thuruthipuram Boat Club'.TBC rowing Gabriel Chundan won Nehru Trophy in 2017 beating Mahadevikkad Kattilthekkethi. Thuruthipuram also has a snake boat in its name,it is one of the first competing snakeboats bearing the name of a village. Place has also a Volleyball Team called 'Pournami' and also a football club called 'Arrows '. Chavittu nadakam a classical art form of Latin Christians has also many takers in the village.
Festivals
St. Francis church's feast is usually celebrated during first week of October, also celebrates feast of saint Mary in December beginning. Both Onam and Christmas are celebrated with same vigour by the people.
