Tigranakert (Nakhijevan)
Tigranakert or Tigranavan is one of the four cities established by Tigranes the Great, emperor king of Armenia carrying his name. The one at Nakhijevan served as a sitting city for Tigranes' sister Tigranouhi.
Tigranakert/Tigranavan was founded in the 1st century B.C. near Aparan or Aparank. Also known as Bənəniyar, it is located in Julfa District in Nakhijevan, present-day Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Azerbaijan.
