Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005

Turkey was represented in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 by Gülseren with the song "Rimi Rimi Ley", written by Göksan Arman and composed by Erdinç Tunç.
Gülseren was born in Istanbul, Turkey. Her parents moved to France when she was only seven. She had to face a new country, a new language and a new culture but she's been living in Paris ever since.
She studied at the INALCO to gain a complete understanding of the country she comes from without forgetting her roots. As she loves sharing, Gülseren teaches Turkish to children in Paris. She started to play the darbuka which she stills plays on stage at a very young age. Gülseren has appeared on several albums and in 2001 she released an album of her own.

After two years of selecting an entry for the Eurovision Song Contest internally, Turkish Radio and Television Corporation decided to return to the public national final system used previously. 136 songs, all written in Turkish, were submitted to TRT and 7 of them were selected by a selection committee for the national final.
The final took place on 11 February 2005 at the Ari TV Studios in Ankara, hosted by Meltem Yazgan and Bülent Özveren. Seven songs competed and the winner was determined by a seventeen-member jury.

Turkey automatically qualified to the grand final, because it was on the top 12 last year. She performed sixth, following Norway and preceding Moldova, and came 13th with 92 points. As Turkey failed to reach the top 11 in the final, the country was forced to compete in the semi-final of the 2006 contest.
The spokesperson who revealed Turkey's votes for other countries was TRT and national final host Meltem Ersan Yazgan.
