Turkowice, Lublin Voivodeship


Turkowice is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Werbkowice, within Hrubieszów County, Lublin Voivodeship, in eastern Poland. It lies approximately south of Werbkowice, south-west of Hrubieszów, and south-east of the regional capital Lublin.

History

World War II

In March 1944, Turkowice was one of hundreds of locales attacked by Polish partisans in acts of ethnic cleansing against the ethnic Ukrainian population. Eighty villagers were murdered and 150 houses destroyed.
