Turvashas
The Turvashas were one of the five major peoples mentioned in the Rig Veda and later texts. They lived southeast of the Sarasvati river region. They are one of the five Rigvedic tribes, the other four being Yadu, Druhyu, Anu and Puru. The origin of the tribes are the five sons of Yayati, of whom Yadu and Turvasu were born to Devayani, and the other three were born to Sharmishtha.
According to the Puranas, the Pandyas and Cheras of south India are said to be descended from the Turvashas.
