Udal of Mahoba
Udal was a legendary person who, like his brother Alha, was of Ahir descent. The Alha-Udal ballads sing of Ahir bravery in medieval period. He was a general in the army of the Chandela king Paramardi Deva of Mahoba in the 12th-13th centuries. Parmal raised Udal as his own son, since he was born after the death of his father Dassraj, who - a general himself - was killed in the service of Parmal. Udal met his end while fighting against Rai Pithora better called as Prithviraj Chauhan in 1182CE.
