Udayanidhi Stalin is an Indian politician, film producer and actor, who has worked on Tamil-language films. He entered the film industry as a film producer and distributor with his production studio, Red Giant Movies, and made films including Kuruvi, Aadhavan and Manmadan Ambu. He subsequently made his debut as an actor through the romantic comedy, Oru Kal Oru Kannadi and has since continued producing and starring in his own films.
Career
Udhayanidhi Stalin's first film as a producer with Red Giant Movies was Kuruvi, starring Vijay and Trisha, while he also produced two films directed by K. S. Ravikumar – "Aadhavan" and Manmadan Ambu, starring Kamal Haasan. He produced AR Murugadoss's science fiction film7aum Arivu, while also working as a distributor, achieving success through his four 2010 releases: Gautham Menon's Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, Vijay's Madrasapattinam, Rajesh's Boss Engira Bhaskaran and Prabhu Solomon's Mynaa. Stalin had featured in a cameo appearance as an actor in Aadhavan, while turning down the opportunity to feature as an actor in Pandiraj's village drama, Vamsam, fearing he would not suit the role. Stalin then began work as an actor on Mysskin's Yuddham Sei and participated in the shoot for a few days, before opting out of the film citing that he wanted to debut with a comedy film. In 2012, Stalin debuted as a lead actor in M. Rajesh's romantic comedy Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, co-starring with Hansika Motwani and Santhanam. Stalin received positive reviews for his performance of an unemployed youth. Behindwoods.com noted: "Udhay's portrayal of Saravanan is neat and enjoyable and he scores well in his debut heroic film", while Sify.com added: "Udhay's debut is promising and hats off to him to underplay his role". Stalin won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his performance. The success of Oru Kal Oru Kannadi prompted Stalin to continue acting and he appeared in Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal and Nanbenda, both films featuring him opposite Nayantara. He worked on Gethu, with Amy Jackson and then performed in the courtroom dramaManithan, with Hansika Motwani, a remake of the Hindi filmJolly LLB.
Udhayanidhi Started his political life as Secretary of Youth Wing in Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on July 4th 2019. Before, he started his political life he started campaigning all over Tamil Nadu in 2019 Lok sabha Elections for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and its alliance parties.
