Universitetsforlaget
Universitetsforlaget AS is a Norwegian academic publishing company, which publishes non-fiction literature and journals. Universitetsforlaget is the main academic press in Norway, and is a wholly owned independently operated subsidiary of Aschehoug.
The publishing house in its current form was established in 2000, and has two different origins: One is Universitetsforlaget, founded by Tønnes Andenæs in 1950. The second origin comes from 1982, when Aschehoug took over the publishing house Tanum-Norli, which then became a publisher of textbooks and schoolbooks named Tano. In 2000, Tano and some subdivisions of Universitetsforlaget merged. Today, the publisher is a wholly owned subsidiary of Aschehoug.
Universitetsforlaget had 33 employees in 2007. The publishing house publishes about 140 new and revised books and journals every year. The so-called Universitetsforlagets faglitterære pris and Universitetsforlagets tidsskriftpris are also given by Universitetsforlaget annually.
