Uwe Kreisel


Uwe Kreisel is a writer and textbook author in the fields of linguistics, ESL, and cross-cultural topics. He is also an expert in instructional design and curriculum planning.
He is a member of the German artists' guilds VG Wort and VG Bild und Kunst and has held fellowships from the German Academic Exchange Service and the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. His work today centers on textbook development, the visual communication of knowledge objects, and the trials and tribulations of travelling. He also serves as a judge of Germany's nation-wide Federal Foreign Language Contest.
Kreisel's travel books focus on cross-cultural interferences and aim at providing practical solutions for the many pitfalls of traveling abroad. His books, all published in Germany, have been in reviewed by major newspapers, such as Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Die Zeit.
As a cartoonist, Uwe Kreisel illustrated several of his own books. In 2006, he was a winner of Nintendo of America's "Pokémon Mystery Dungeon" art contest with a tongue-in-cheek cartoon on Franz Kafka's 1915 The Metamorphosis.
Kreisel currently resides in Jemgum, East Frisia, in the Upper Northwest of Germany, and keeps an apartment in Stockholm, Sweden. He also travels around the world, researching new books.
