Veneto for Autonomy

Veneto for Autonomy, is a liberal-conservative and autonomist political party in Italy, based in Veneto.

History

The party emerged in July 2017 as a split from the Tosi List for Veneto and its Italian counterpart Act!. Both parties were founded and led by Flavio Tosi, mayor of Verona and former leader of Liga Veneta–Lega Nord. In the 2015 regional election the LTV and an LTV-related list obtained a combined 7.1% and four regional councillors: Andrea Bassi, Stefano Casali, Maurizio Conte and Giovanna Negro. In May 2017 Bassi and Casali left the LTV and formed a separate group in the Regional Council, Venetian Centre-Right. In doing this, they were joined by a third councillor, Fabiano Barbisan of Liga Veneta, for technical reasons.
Conte launched Veneto for Autonomy, explaining that "Tosi has always been a friend, but at this time clarity is needed with regard to political goals. I believe that there has been too much uncertainty and little clarity over the positions to take on state reform",, and effectively disbanding the LTV. Along with Conte, the two most leading founding members of the new party were Luca Baggio, a former regional councillor and national president of Liga Veneta, and Roberto Caon, a member of the Chamber of Deputies who chose to sit with Forza Italia. The three had all been long-time members of Liga Veneta–Lega Nord and had followed Tosi out of the party in the spring of 2015.
In the 2018 general election Caon was re-elected to the Chamber for FI.
