Vera Fischer (actress)


Vera Lúcia Berndt Fischer is a Brazilian actress of long-standing reputation and works in cinema and for the small screen, particularly for telenovelas.
A former beauty pageant titleholder, Vera was crowned Miss Brazil in 1969 by Miss Brazil 1968 and also Miss Universe 1968, Martha Vasconcellos.

Biography

Fischer was born in Blumenau, in Brazil, to Hildegard Berndt, a Brazilian of German descent, and Emil Fischer, a German who was originally from Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg. Vera was raised Protestant. Emil Fischer, Vera's father, was a Nazi, and she never had a good relationship with him: "My father was German, Nazi, and used to force me to read Hitler and he beat me a lot", she wrote in an autobiography.
Until age 5, Vera only spoke German and started to learn Portuguese at school.

Career

She was crowned Miss Brazil in 1969 which is what propelled her career to great fame. She also competed at Miss Universe 1969, becoming a semi-finalist. The film that brought her onscreen reputation was A Superfêmea, a pornochanchada of 1973. She is considered a good actress and has won several awards. Among her theatrical appearances, she is best known for A Primeira Noite de Um Homem, the adaptation of The Graduate by Miguel Falabella.
She is considered a notable sex symbol in Brazil. In 1982 and in 2000, she did nude photoshoots for the Brazilian issue of the Playboy magazine.
She starred in telenovelas such as O Clone and Laços de Família. She has a daughter and a son from her respective marriages.
