Vico Thai


Vico Thai is an Australian actor, He is known for his role as Chau in feature film Mother Fish. His notable roles in television include starring as Riz in Foxtel’s Dangerous and as Quang a vengeful Ghost in Matchbox Pictures and NBC Universals Original series for SBS called Hungry Ghosts.

Early life

Thai was born in Saigon, Vietnam, and raised in Sydney in the suburb of Bankstown. He is of Chinese, Vietnamese and French ancestry. He began performing at the age of 10 before receiving a prestigious national scholarship to study at the Australian Theatre for Young People. Thai was nominated by the Ten Network for a National Young Achiever Award for his achievements in performance.
In 2002 Vico's 14-year-old sister Jenny Thai died from an unsuccessful open heart surgery.

Career

Thai's early roles include his breakout performance as a guest star on Young Lions, screened on the Nine Network.
Thai's next role came as a regular lead, as one of the stars on Foxtel’s AFI nominated show Dangerous working alongside Joel Edgerton, Brooke Satchwell and Nicole da Silva. He next starred in the internationally acclaimed show East West 101 with notable appearances in cult TV series Underbelly, award winning satire comedy Review with Myles Barlow and guest starring alongside Guy Pearce in the acclaimed Television mini series thriller Jack Irish. As a child of refugee parents Vico has dedicated time to his community by helping raise awareness through collaborating with local and international artists and creatives. Thai volunteered his time to perform as Doctor Minh in the feature film Change of our Lives in the Cancer Council Australia initiative to combat Hepatitis B in the Vietnamese community. Thai's work continued with director Khoa Do and the theatrical play Missing Water, which Thai received wide acclaim for his performance of Vietnamese refugee fisherman Chau. In 2009 this story was made into a feature film with a revised title called Mother Fish, which was selected for the 2009 Sydney Film Festival. The film received rave reviews and was the only local film to receive an award at the film festival.
He is currently cast in NBC Universal's "Hungry Ghosts" as Quang.
