Vilsteren


Vilsteren is a village in the municipality of Ommen in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is situated just off the left bank of the Vecht in between Dalfsen and Ommen, about 17 kilometres east of the provincial capital of Zwolle.
The village Vilsteren has a population of around 200. The statistical area "Vilsteren", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 380.

History

The village of Vilsteren is named after Herman of Vilsteren, a vassal of the Archbishop of Utrecht in 1381. During the Reformation, Vilsteren was one of the few villages to remain Roman Catholic in what is now the Protestant Bible Belt.
