Vineyard Theatre is an Off-Broadwaytheatre company dedicated to developing and producing bold new plays and musicals by both emerging and established artists. They are committed to creating an artistic home for daring and diverse artists, to nurturing their unique voices, and to engaging audiences and community in dialogue by producing work that challenges people to see themselves and the world in new ways, pushing the boundaries of what theatre can be and do. The Vineyard is one of the country’s foremost theatre companies dedicated to the creation and production of new plays and musicals, and its artists and productions are the recipients of two Pulitzer Prizes, five Tony Awards, 23 Obie Awards, two Oppenheimer Awards, and numerous New York Drama Critics Circle, Lucille Lortel, and Drama Desk awards. It celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2017. Notable projects developed and premiered by The Vineyard include two Pulitzer Prize-winning dramas, Paula Vogel’s HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE and Edward Albee’s THREE TALL WOMEN and five productions that have transferred to Broadway – John Kander and Fred Ebb’s THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, Hunter Bell and Jeff Bowen’s , Bobby Lopez, Jeff Marx and Jeff Whitty’s AVENUE Q, Nicky Silver’s THE LYONS, and most recently INDECENT by Paula Vogel. Other notable premieres include Becky Mode’s FULLY COMMITTED ; Colman Domingo’s DOT, Jenny Schwartz’s GOD’S EAR, Craig Lucas’ THE DYING GAUL, Nicky Silver’s PTERODACTYLS, Anne Washburn’s THE INTERNATIONALIST, Julia Cho’s THE PIANO TEACHER, Christopher Shinn’s WHERE DO WE LIVE, Will Eno’s MIDDLETOWN, Tarell Alvin McCraney’s WIG OUT!, Michael Mayer and Peter Lerman’s BROOKLYNITE, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ Pulitzer finalist play GLORIA, Jeremy O. Harris' DADDY and many more. The Vineyard is also home to the Vineyard Community of Artists, an alliance of playwrights, composers, actors, designers, and directors that provides artists with a broad range of opportunities to develop their work, strike new collaborations, and participate in the ongoing life of the theatre. It sponsors panel discussions, guest speakers, informal readings of works-in-progress and full readings of new plays.
