Visa requirements for French citizens are administrative entry restrictions by the authorities of other states placed on citizens of France. As of 7 April 2020, French citizens had visa-free or visa on arrival access to 186 countries and territories, ranking the French passport 6th in the world in terms of travel freedom according to the Henley Passport Index.

Non-ordinary passports

Holders of various categories of official French passports have additional visa-free access to the following countries - Algeria, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Qatar, Russia and Vietnam. Holders of diplomatic or service passports of any country have visa-free access to Cape Verde, Ethiopia, Mali and Zimbabwe.

Right to consular protection in non-EU countries

Where there is no French embassy, French citizens, as EU citizens, have the right to get consular protection from the embassy of any other EU country that has a presence.

Non-visa restrictions

Despite what is written below, some countries on a bilateral basis allow French citizens to travel on expired passports. For example, Turkey allows holders of French passports to use passports that expired up to 5 years ago.
