Vovchansk


Vovchansk is a Ukrainian city in Kharkiv Oblast, seat of Vovchansk Raion. Population:

History

Since April 1780 it was the administrative centre of Volchansk uyezd in Kharkov Governorate of the Russian Empire.
A local newspaper is published here since February 1918.
It became a part of Donets-Krivoy Rog Soviet Republic, although in spring 1918 it was occupied by German troops.
After declaration of independence of Ukraine Volchansk was renamed into Vovchansk.
The economic crisis that began in 2008 hit the local industry. A dairy factory stopped work and in December 2009 ceased to exist.
