History

WLEX-FM came on the air in 1968 on 98.1 MHz
WKQQ was licensed as a 50 KW facility on 98.1, and in 1974 that was increased to 100 KW. It ran as an Album-Oriented Rock station from this site until the late 1990s when the FCC mandated that all Class C FMs running 100 KW ERP must be 1000' HAAT. At this point, WKQQ switched frequencies with the old Winchester, KY Class A FM, received a CP for 20 KW on 100.1 MHz and built a new station and identity. The station now plays a deep tracks-purged rotation of mainstream rock. Winchester received the old 98.1 MHz frequency at the 100 KW power level. WBUL-FM currently occupies 98.1. Back in May WKQQ increased its Coverage to 50 KW And changed its format to Classic Rock the change took place cause people couldn't pick up WKQQ In London, KY. Now the Coverage will be increasing its Clarity and Signal on 100.1 and WKQQ Will be on 100.1 until another mandate by the FCC.
