WYXR

WYXR is a radio station that is currently silent. Licensed to Memphis, Tennessee, United States, the station is currently owned by Crosstown Radio Partnership, Inc.
As WUMR, the station was previously a section of the College of Communication and Fine Arts as part of the Department of Communication at the University of Memphis. WUMR was managed by a staff/faculty member of the Department of Communication with the title of General Manager. The station was staffed by students of the Communication and Journalism and Strategic Media departments of the University, but on-air broadcasting experience was open to all students, and even community volunteers. The student staff of WUMR consisted of a student Program Director, Production Director, News Director, Sports Director, Director of Underwriting, and Webmaster. As a non-commercial/educational station, WUMR could not air commercials, but as with public radio stations, WUMR could sell sponsorships known as underwriting. The range of WUMR was a 90-mile radius of Memphis and the station could also be heard online through its Internet stream.
In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the station discontinued broadcasting. Upon resumption of service, the station will exist as a collaboration between the University, Crosstown Concourse and the Daily Memphian. The University of Memphis transferred WUMR's license to Crosstown Radio Partnership, Inc. effective March 31, 2020, and the station's call sign was changed to WYXR coincident with the license transfer.
