The Washington Waldorf School's mission is to cultivate each student's capacity to think clearly, feel compassionately, and act purposefully in the world. Teachers encourage the connections that broaden students’ experiences and help them grow in new directions by incorporating academic, artistic, and practical elements into every subject, creating memorable lessons, successful scholars, and strong individuals.
Starting with parent-child classes and going through the 12th grade, the Washington Waldorf School is a deeply rooted educational community that has served DC area families for 50 years. Hallmarks of Waldorf education are an arts-integrated curriculum where the arts are used as tools for learning any subject. The curriculum is rich in the sciences and humanities. The school as one of the few outdoor kindergarten programs in the Washington, DC area.
The school is located in Bethesda, Maryland, just north of Washington, DC on a beautiful 6 acre campus they rent from Montgomery County. As part of their lease, the Washington Waldorf School has made significant improvements to the property.
As a Waldorf school, the curriculum is based on the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner. Washington Waldorf School is one of over 1000 Waldorf schools worldwide and 150 Waldorf schools in North America.

History

The Washington Waldorf School was founded initially as a grade school in 1969 in Washington, DC, and in 1982 moved to its current six-acre campus in Bethesda, Maryland. The high school was added in 1984 and graduated its first 12th grade in 1988.
The school is accredited by Association of Independent Maryland and DC Schools and the . The school's sports teams compete in the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference.
