Waverly-Shell Rock Senior High School


Waverly-Shell Rock Senior High School is a senior high school located in Waverly, Iowa, United States. It provides high school education for Waverly and surrounding areas in Bremer County.

Organization

The school is part of the Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District. The current principal is Dave Fox and the associate principal is Brady Weber. Education is provided in grades 9-12. As of the 2010–11 school year it had an enrolment of 671 students, 96% of whom were White.

Athletics

The school competes in the Northeast Iowa Conference.
Waverly-Shell won the class 3A boys' basketball Iowa state title in 2007 and 2013. Mike Bergman in 1989 and Clayton Vette in 2007 won the Iowa Mr. Basketball award as the best high school boys basketball player in Iowa.

Racism

During a baseball game between Waverly-Shell Rock High and Charles City High School on June 29th, 2020, individuals from Waverly-Shell Rock High were heard insulting an African-American teenager on the opposing team with overtly and unapologetic racist taunts. Some of these comments are quoted as such: "You should have been George Floyd" and "Get back to the fields." Upon reproach for their behavior by the player, the Waverly-Shell Rock High participants began chanting "TRUMP 2020" in response. At the time of this posting, no disciplinary action has been made available regarding the individuals involved.
