West Helmsdale


West Helmsdale is a small settlement, lying on the right bank of the River Helmsdale, on the east coast of Sutherland, Scottish Highlands and is in the Scottish council area of Highland. The village of Helmsdale lies on the left bank of the River Helmsdale.
A number of small Crofts are still there. Many new ones are springing up from people who have visited Helmsdale and loved it.
Most crofts in West Helmsdale date back over 100 years.

Community buyout

The Garbh Allt Community Initiative was established in West Helmsdale to buy out the 3,000-acre West Helmsdale Crofting Estate from Sutherland Estates.
