West Valley Mall


West Valley Mall is a mall in Tracy, California that opened in 1995. It is owned and operated by Brookfield Properties Retail Group and is located directly off Highway 205. Anchor stores include JCPenney, Target, Macy's, and a Cinemark Movie Theater. Previous anchors were Barnes & Noble, Gottschalks, Old Navy, Ross Dress For Less, Sears, and Sports Authority.
The mall is located north and next to both Grant Line Road and Interstate 205 which connects with nearby interstates 580 and 5. The shopping center is adjacent to the former Naglee Park and Ride Lot, a transit hub for local Tracer and regional SMART bus services.
West Valley Mall is home to several rare features, including a carousel located in the main food court as well as an arcade near the food court and weekly farmers' markets.
On December 20, 2013, a shooting was reported at the West Valley Mall near the Eastern entrance. No injuries were reported from the incident, and the accused shooter was apprehended shortly after the shooting.

History

Mall construction began in 1994, and West Valley Mall opened its doors in 1995 with Gottschalks and Target. Cinemark Movies 14 was added in 1996. JCPenney, Sears and Ross Dress for Less were added in 1998. Barnes & Noble and Old Navy were added in 2002. Old Navy closed in 2007, as well as Gottschalks in 2009. Macy's replaced Gottschalks in 2010. Ross Stores announced that they would move from West Valley Mall to the former Linens 'n Things building in 2012, and Barnes & Noble announced it would close its store in late 2013. Homelife Furniture opened its doors in the space formerly occupied by Ross Dress for Less in the same year.
A Sports Authority store replaced Barnes & Noble in 2014, then closed due to the chain's Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2016. This store has since been replaced by a budget gymnasium, that seems to be performing satisfactory.
On November 7, 2019, it was announced that Sears would be closing this location a part of a plan to close 96 stores nationwide. The store closed in February 2020.
On June 4, 2020, it was announced that JCPenney would be closing this location as part of a plan to close 154 stores nationwide which will leave Macy's and Target as the only traditional anchors left.
