Whitrope

Whitrope is a densely forested area, high in the Southern Upland hills managed by the Forestry Commission in the south central Scottish Borders of Scotland, in the former Roxburghshire.
It is also an area full of historical places that needs to be seen to be enjoyed. Situated some 12 miles south from Hawick on the B6399 road, one can find the Whitrope Rail Heritage Centre on the right, the headquarters of the Waverley Route Heritage Association.
A network of Heritage Trails has been established, including the Ritson Trail, named after William Ritson, a contractor from the Victorian era, and responsible for the Shankend Viaduct, Riccarton Junction, and Whitrope Tunnel and summit.
