Will Fowles


Will Fowles is an Australian politician. He has been a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly since November 2018, representing the seat of Burwood. In 2005 he became the youngest ever member of the Committee of the Melbourne Cricket Club, a position he held until 2014. More recently he has been a Trustee of the Melbourne & Olympic Park Trust. Prior to entering parliament he was the director of Piper Communications, a specialist communications firm based in Melbourne, after previously working for Piper Capital, a boutique hospitality and property investment firm.

Early life

Fowles is the son of David Fowles and grew up in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. He went to Scotch College and then studied Commerce and Law at Monash University. There, he became involved in student theatre and student politics, and was elected as President of the Monash Student Association in 2000. He was also involved in the Australian Republican Movement as its national youth convenor, and later as a member of its National Committee.

Political career

At the 2002 Victorian Election, Fowles, aged 24 at the time, stood for the upper house seat of East Yarra, representing the Australian Labor Party. He lost by only 1%.
In the 2008 City of Melbourne election, Fowles was the lord mayoral candidate on the "Fowles: A Fresh Vision" team.
At the 2018 Victorian election, Fowles was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the member for Burwood, again representing the Labor Party.
On 25 July 2019, Fowles was questioned by ACT Police in Canberra, following an incident in which he had allegedly he had kicked in the door of a hotel room at the Abode Apartments in Kingston. Fowles apologised for his actions, saying that he had been suffering from addiction and other mental health issues and had been attempting to retrieve medication from his luggage which was locked in the room. In a statement, Fowles said he would take a leave of absence to address his health issues.
