William Avenya


William Amove Avenya from Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State is the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gboko in the Ecclesiastical province of Abuja in Nigeria. Avenya is the first Bishop of the diocese since its creation on 29 December 2012. He also serves as Secretary of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria.

Religious life

He was Ordained a Priest on 30 May 1981. He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Makurdi, Nigeria on 28 Nov 2008. He was appointed Titular Bishop of Thucca in Mauretania on 28 Nov 2008 and Ordained a Bishop on 24 Jan 2009. He was appointed Bishop of Gboko, Nigeria on 29 Dec 2012 and Installed on 24 Feb 2013.
