William H. Morgan


William H. Morgan was a military officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

Biography

Morgan was born on March 31, 1831 in Danvers, Massachusetts. On January 27, 1865, he married Lena H. Maass. They would have a son.

Career

After the outbreak of the civil war, Morgan joined the 7th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment of the Union Army. On January 3, 1864 he served as the Assistant Adjutant General of the 1st Division, XIII Union Army Corps, Department of the Gulf at Fort Esperanza, Texas which is located on the Texas Gulf Coast, during the unsuccessful Coast Expedition. At one point after being wounded, Morgan was taken prisoner. He was later released and re-joined the regiment before being transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps. In 1865, he was brevetted a brigadier general.
