William McKenzie (Ontario merchant)


William McKenzie was a merchant and politician in Ontario, Canada. He served as mayor of North Bay from 1892 to 1893 and from 1903 to 1904.
The son of Murdoch Mckenzie and Jean McKay, he was born in Vaughan township, York County, Canada West. He was educated in York County, then in Peel County, at the Rockwood Academy and at an academy in Owen Sound. McKenzie then taught school in Dufferin and Grey counties for ten years. In 1887, he came to North Bay. He became a grocer and then opened a furniture store. McKenzie was a collector of customs for North Bay, Sudbury, Sturgeon Falls and Cobalt. He was also a partner with Frederick Martyn in an undertaking business in North Bay from 1897 to 1907.
McKenzie served five years on North Bay council.
He married Jean Wright.
McKenzie died in North Bay at the age of 64.
