Willy Giummarra


Willy Giummarra is a Canadian former soccer player who played in the National Professional Soccer League, American Professional Soccer League, English third division, USL A-League, and Canadian Professional Soccer League.

Career

Giummarra began his career in 1996 at the indoor level in the National Professional Soccer League with Philadelphia KiXX. Midway through the season he was traded to St. Louis Ambush. Throughout his time in the NPSL he played with Toronto Shooting Stars, Montreal Impact, Harrisburg Heat, Florida ThunderCats, and Toronto ThunderHawks. In 1996, during the outdoor season he played with Montreal Impact in the American Professional Soccer League, where he won the regular season championship. He went abroad in 1997 to England to play with Darlington F.C. in the English third division.
The following year he returned to Canada to sign with the Toronto Lynx in the USL A-League. He made his debut on June 7, 1998 against Long Island Rough Riders. In 1999, he signed with York Region Shooters in the Canadian Professional Soccer League, where he received the CPSL MVP award in 2000. He was also selected for the CPSL All-Star roster against Canada Development Team.
The Toronto Olympians acquired Giummarra to a contract, and made his debut on May 26, 2001 against Montreal Dynamites. In 2002, he signed with the Vaughan Sun Devils, and had stints with Toronto Croatia, and Brampton Hitmen in 2004.
