The club was originally made up of players from the North East Wales Institute and Yale College in Wrexham. As of 2009 the club was formally taken under the umbrella of Wrexham Football Club, creating the foundation to move forwards as a club. Wrexham Ladies played their home games at Lex XI's Stansty Park.
After six seasons in the top flight and before the start of the 2015–16 season, Wrexham Ladies withdrew from the league citing a lack of players as the reason for the withdrawal. After a four-year hiatus, Wrexham Ladies returned for the 2019–20 season and will play in North Wales Women's Football League Division 2.
