Xite

XITE is an interactive music video platform. Founded in the Netherlands, XITE now reaches 80 million households across Europe and North America through linear networks, interactive TV, and on-demand streaming services. The company allows viewers to search, like, and skip through its catalogue; enjoy channels curated by its team of music experts; and create personalised channels based on genre, era and visual style using its unique Mixer feature. XITE is now live in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland, and has access to virtually every available music video through agreements with all major and top independent music labels.

History

XITE was founded by entrepreneur Derk Nijssen. The company invested in the channel by technology start-up fund Henq Innovation Fund 1, United Broadcast Facilities and Rebel Technologies. Base7 was used as the working name for the start of the Base7 transmitter. The home base was initially located in Rotterdam.
The station started broadcasting in 2008 via the digital packages from UPC and Caiway. At UPC, XITE replaced the canceled music channel TMF Nederland. As with the canceled music channel The Box, viewers could request video clips by phone by means of a clip code. In September 2009 XITE came up with an on-demand system via the red button on the remote control. Since then, the viewer has been able to request clips in this way and he has been able to compile playlists by genre and view specials and interviews.
In February 2011 XITE started broadcasting in Belgium via the basic package of Telenet. XITE started broadcasting in Germany in September 2014. In 2016, the Personalized Music Television service was launched via Ooredoo in Qatar. In the same year, a 4K channel was offered via KPN, where music videos were shown in Ultra-HD. From May 2017, XITE 4K is also available in Canada.

Personalised Music Television

Since December 2015 XITE offers Personalized Music Television, an interactive application for television users of Ziggo and Ooredoo. XITE's Director of Distribution Partnerships Marius Brok believes that it's "outdated" for a viewer to flick through a number of music channels and "hopefully their favorite video comes on." Based on the "Hear-See-Feel" system, users can check out all the genres' videos in either an on-demand service or on a continuous streaming channel. By this way, users won't miss out on any of their favourite videos in the comfort of XITE.
In this application, the viewer gets the possibility to like or skip music video clips with the remote control, to choose from different curated theme channels or to create his/her own theme channel.
Since July 2017 the Personalized Music Television service has been integrated directly into the current channel for Ziggo customers with the Mediabox XL. This means that the user no longer has to search for the app in the app store, but everyone with a set-top box has direct access to the service via channel 25. This makes XITE the first provider in the world to combine technology, music and television to build a bridge between the traditional way of watching TV and the new digital on-demand era.

Xite Music

On 1 April, 2019 Xite launched a digital music pay radio service on Ziggo in the Netherlands. It is a service that broadcast continuous streaming music and other forms of audio on multiple channel feeds. Xite Music replaced Stingray Music on Ziggo.
