Yamaha YZF-R3

The Yamaha YZF-R3, commonly known as the "R3", is a sport motorcycle that has been manufactured by Yamaha since 2015. A first for Yamaha twins, the other being R25, the R3 uses an offset cylinder design.
The YZF-R3 was updated for 2019.

Design

The Yamaha R3 is an entry level sport motorcycle, designed to compete with rivals in 250-400 cc sector, such as the Kawasaki Ninja 300, Honda CBR300R, and KTM 390 series. It is designed as a well-balanced sport motorcycle, with some design similarity to R25, such as engine. With a low seat height, the windscreen sufficiently deflects the wind overhead. The 321 cc performance-oriented engine is lightweight, powerful, and has a wide power band. Most of the power can be found from 7,000 rpm to redline. The engine uses a downdraft induction fuel injection system and the 10-spoke cast aluminum wheels reduce unsprung weight. The cylinders are all-aluminum. For 2017, the YZF-R3 offers optional ABS. The 2018 Model has dual channel ABS and is EURO IV compliant.

Performance, reviews and criticisms

The bike can reach in less than 3 seconds, and in 5.5 seconds. The 2015 R3 has a braking distance of 131.5 feet from. According to some reviewers, the braking system is not powerful enough to match the engine power, and is also prone to fishtailing under hard braking. However, engine braking can be used to assist deceleration, as the stock bike does not have a slipper clutch. Minimal adjustable suspension is considered another downside on the bike. However, compared to other bikes in its class, it is considered finely tuned and sufficient.

Rivals

Yamaha R3 competes directly with Kawasaki Ninja 300. Other entry level competitors include Honda CBR300R, TVS Apache RR 310, Suzuki GSX-R250 and KTM RC 390.
