Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.5% of the population. There were 353 households of which 42.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.5% were married couples living together, 11.6% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.7% had a male householder with no wife present, and 19.3% were non-families. 13.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.88 and the average family size was 3.13. The median age in the city was 37.6 years. 27.7% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.8% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 25.6% were from 25 to 44; 31% were from 45 to 64; and 8.9% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 49.4% male and 50.6% female.

As of the census of 2000, there were 794 people, 256 households, and 207 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,974.3 people per square mile. There were 267 housing units at an average density of 663.9 per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 96.47% White, 0.25% Native American, 1.39% Asian, 0.38% from other races, and 1.51% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.79% of the population. There were 256 households out of which 46.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.6% were married couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.1% were non-families. 16.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.10 and the average family size was 3.43. In the city, the population was spread out with 31.7% under the age of 18, 10.7% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 7.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females, there were 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.4 males. The median income for a household in the city was $49,688, and the median income for a family was $52,344. Males had a median income of $38,661 versus $24,583 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,745. About 5.3% of families and 5.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.9% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.

Architecture
The John Marion Bunn House and Lee Laughlin House are both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Percy L. Menefee Ranch House, north-west of Yamhill, was designed by architect Pietro Belluschi in 1948, and won national awards and acclaim.
