Yelm High School

Yelm High School is a comprehensive high school in the city of Yelm, Washington, United States. It is part of the Yelm Community Schools.
Yelm is said to have received its mascot, the "Yelm Tornado", after a small tornado blew through the small town in the early 20th century.
Yelm Community Schools was the first school district in Washington. However, it is officially "School District 2", because the Seattle School District had a larger student body population, so they were awarded the number one position.
Though the town of Yelm has a population of less than 7,000, the district includes the surrounding rural area, and has the widest ranging school bus route in the state.
The old high school has been torn down, and a new building was opened in the fall of 2006.

History

2006 expansion

In late 2004, the Yelm Community Schools district decided to expand the district with a new school and a new building to replace two old outdated ones at Yelm High School. Referred to as buildings "A" and "B" in the architectural plans for the current building, these buildings were torn down late-summer 2006 to make way for the school's new portables. Along with the new construction of the new 100/200 building, there were also major renovations to the 400 and 500 series buildings.
