Yusuf al-Hindi


Mohammed Shafi Armar, known as Yusuf al-Hindi, is an Indian Islamic militant and chief of operations for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in India.

History

He is originally from Bhatkal. He was born between 1989 and 1991.
He was formerly a member of the Indian Mujahideen. In 2008/9, he and his brother Sultan Armar fled to Pakistan.
He has been involved in various plots to recruit individuals to carry out attacks in India via social media. In 2016 he was involved in a failed plot in Hyderabad.
In May 2016, he was indicted at Patiala House District court along with five others under Section 120 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 18 and 20 of Unlawful Activities.
In June 2017, he was listed as a Specially Designated National and had any assets frozen by the United States.
