Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008


Albania selected their entry for the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest on December 16, 2007 in the Festivali I Këngës competition. The winner was Olta Boka with the song "Zemrën e lamë peng", she represented Albania in Belgrade on May 22 where she participated in the second semi-final and won a place in the final.

The final was held on 16 December 2007, with the winner being determined by a seven-person jury. The 7 judges awarded 10 songs with points, with their favorite song receiving 12 points, the second-favourite song receiving 9 points, and continuing downwards from 8 points to 1 point.
The jury that voted in the final included Agim Krajka, Gjergj Leka, Baton Haxhia, David Tukiqi, Rudina Magjistari, Gjergj Xhuvani and Alban Skënderaj.

At Eurovision

Since Albania had come in 17th in the semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2007, Ora Boka was obliged to perform her song in one of the two semi-finals of the 2008 contest. The EBU split up countries with a friendly voting history into the two different semi-finals, to give a better chance to other countries to win. On 28 January 2008, the EBU held a special draw which determined that Albania would be in the second semi-final, held on 22 May 2008. performed 6th, following Lithuania and preceding the Switzerland. Albania qualified to the final, placing 9th in the semi-final and scoring 67 points.
In the final, she performed 3rd following United Kingdom and preceding Germany, finishing in 17th place with 55 points.
For the 2008 contest the spokesperson for the Albania broadcast was Leon Menkshi.
