Albrecht Dürer the Elder
Albrecht Dürer the Elder was a Hungarian goldsmith and the father of the Northern Renaissance painter Albrecht Dürer. He was born in Ajtós, near Gyula in Hungary, where his father Antal was a goldsmith. In 1455, seeking wider commercial opportunities, he moved to Nuremberg, where he died. He is the subject of several of his son's portraits.Footnote
