Alessandra Scala


Alessandra Scala was an Italian poet and a Greek scholar.

Biography

She was born in 1475, the fifth daughter of the chancellor of Florence, Bartolomeo Scala. Scala studied under Janus Lascaris and Angelo Politian, and corresponded with Cassandra Fedele.
In 1494, she married Greek poet and soldier Michael Tarchaniota Marullus, six years later Marullus died, Scala then entered the Florentine convent of San Pier Maggiore. She died there in 1506.
