Bandanpur


Bandanpur is a small village in Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh, India. Within 5km are the nearby villages of Hardoiya, Aanapur Saraiya, Hardi, Khirauni, Khirauni, Amsin, Trilokpur, Samda, Maya Bazar, Mehbubganj and Gosaiganj. A further 8km away is the historical site of Sringirishi Ashram.
Bandanpur has its own local post office. Transportation is easily available, and there is a small market called Padua. In Bandanpur, people are dependent on agriculture. Wheat, rice, sugarcane, mustard, and mangos are the main crops.
A number of notable people have come from Bandanpur, such as Jayanti Prasad Tiwari, the founder of the school in 1979. Jayanti Prasad Tiwari was a social activist from Uttar Pradesh and born in the village of Bandanpur to a well-known Brahmin Tiwari family. At a young age, he moved to Ahmedabad in 1932 and worked with Rustom Cama, a famous name from Ahmedabad. He was unable to study during his childhood, therefore, as an adult, he decided to open schools and universities, beginning in his home village. Fundraising has allowed the foundation of the Jan Sewa Ashram schools. His death on March 28, 1983, is commemorated every year at his schools.
Another remarkable person, the late Shri Anantu Tiwari, who lost his life in the Indus Pak war. He was a brave son of this soil.

About 8km to the north, on the road to Faizabad, there is a market called Mehbubgan which contains the famous Sherwaghat. There is also an Ashram of Shringi Rishi, who was the legendary Indian Hindu saint and Rishi of sage Kashyapa's lineage. He was a great saint of the Ramayan era of ancient India. His father was the great saint Vibhandak Rishi. Shringi Rishi performed 'Putrakameshti Yajya' for King Dashrath of Ayodhya, after that Lord Rama and his three brothers were born.
