Charles Michels (Paris Métro)


Charles Michels is a station on Line 10 of the Paris Métro. It is located in the 15th arrondissement.

History

The station was opened under the name Beaugrenelle on 13 July 1913 as the southern terminus of the original section of Line 8, with Opéra as the line's northern terminus. On 29 July 1937, Line 10 was extended from Duroc to La Motte-Picquet – Grenelle. The section of Line 8 between La Motte-Picquet – Grenelle and Porte d'Auteuil, including Beaugrenelle, was rerouted to Line 10.
The station was named Beaugrenelle, after Place Beaugrenelle, the former name of Place Charles Michels. Beaugrenelle was a name given by property developers in the Grenelle district during its urbanisation. In 1945, it was renamed after Charles Michels, who had been elected to the Chamber of Deputies for the 15th arrondissement of Paris for the Popular Front; he was taken hostage and shot by the Nazis.
In 2015, the station was used by 4,851,393 passengers, making it the 90th busiest out of 302 on the Métro network.
