Heolddu Comprehensive School


Heolddu Comprehensive School is a school located in the town of Bargoed, South Wales, and serves the town of Bargoed as well as the villages of Deri, Aberbargoed, Tir-Phil, Cascade, Gilfach, Tredegar and Brithdir in the Caerphilly LEA. The school has 500 pupils and 40 teaching staff.

History

The building itself was constructed in 1974. Until 2017 the school's motto had been "opportunity for all", it was then changed to “Achieving Excellence Together”.

Alumni

In 2009 the then Head of Law, Colin Moyle received national press coverage when it was found that he had uploaded a number of pornographic videos starring his wife - without her knowledge. In response Mr Moyle went on long-term sick leave before resigning, a Caerphilly county council spokesman said "The disciplinary panel of the school conducted a disciplinary hearing and concluded that had Mr Moyle not resigned he would have been dismissed for gross misconduct."
In 2012 the then Headteacher Philip Jones was accused of "running a dictatorship" and calling teachers the "Taliban", and the NASUWT launched a teachers strike.Mr Jones was placed on Secondment in October 2012 with official resignation in 2013.
